My latest class assignment was to Kitbash a model together using the parts the instructor gave us and pick a figure from a reference sheet of 100 Mechs by Eric Geusz as inspiration. I liked the look of this science droid/robot and was inspired and kitbashed a ladybug droid for it to examine after I got into it. (It's like digging through a bin of Legos and making something.)
I kitbashed it in Maya, brought it into ZBrush (after much trial and error with it making weird triangles that weren't in the model!), painted it in Substance Painter, and rendered the final scene in Marmoset Toolbag.
My inspiration for the colors was the children's TV show, "Little Bill." I wanted to make a more feminine, African American looking droid in a cartoon color palette. The Ladybug was fun to do in a contrasting metallic to the large chalky looking Science droid. I played with emissives for the Science droid's face details.
I wanted to make a handpainted background that was anime inspired and found a cool video on how to make 360 degree HDR Panoramic images. The final backdrop was done in Photoshop. Here's a link to a cool video on how to do it.
